By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 3: Provincial leaders of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Pakistan People’s Party on Monday discussed the situation arising out of the arrest of ARD president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and decided to discuss the future strategy in a meeting of the Sindh chapter of the ARD on Tuesday.

The bilateral meeting was held in assembly chambers of leader of the opposition on Monday.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, PML-N leader Zain Ansari deplored the arrest of Javed Hashmi and claimed the charges were fabricated against a patriotic Pakistani.

Instead, he said that those who had violated Article 6 of the Constitution should be put in the dock. He reiterated the party stand of not accepting the LFO and a president in uniform.

Briefing newsmen about the decisions, the provincial ARD chief, Nisar Khuhro, said that Makhdoom Javed Hashmi had been kept in illegal detention which was a cruel and unacceptable joke.

He said that in Sindh many functionaries of the ruling coalition were implicated in many cases but no action was being taken against them.

The PML-N was represented in the meeting by Mian Ijaz Shafi, Salim Zia, Sardar Rahim, Zain Ansari, Nihal Hashmi, Syed Hafizuddin, Tariq Khan, Malik Naeem Awan, Israr Mashwani and Din Mohammad Leghari. The PPP team included Syed Murad Ali Shah, Haji Muzaffar Shujra, Habibuddin Junedi, Sassi Palejo, Shazia Marri Rafiq engineer and others.

PPI adds: PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro told newsmen that “illegal arrest of Javed Hashmi” was unacceptable and added that those who wrote the letter against army leadership were moving freely.

He said the Sindh governor and several other provincial ministers were involved in criminal cases but instead of arresting them, the opposition leaders were being arrested and subjected to inhuman treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N Sindh leaders said cases against Javed Hashmi were violation of the constitution and basic human rights and demanded registration of cases against the President for violating Article 6 of the Constitution.
