Indian troops kill five Kashmiris

SRINAGAR, Nov 1: Indian troops shot dead five Mujahideen in occupied Kashmir, while nine civilians were injured in a grenade attack, police said on Saturday.

In one encounter, one freedom fighter was shot dead on Friday by troops in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, 25 kilometres from Srinagar.

Two others were shot dead in another gunbattle on early Saturday in Baramulla district, 30 kilometres from Srinagar, while another was killed in Anantnag district’s Shangas area, police said.

Another Mujahid was killed in the Poonch border district in an encounter while an army soldier was killed and another injured in a separate incident in the Hill Kaka area.

In a separate incident, nine civilians were injured when Mujahideen lobbed a grenade at an army vehicle in Narbal, on the Srinagar-Gulmarg road.

The grenade missed its target and exploded among passers-by, police said.—AFP
