RAWALPINDI, Nov 1: KRL took a 101-run first innings lead against PTCL on Saturday, the second day of their three-day Patron’s Trophy qualifying round game.
Although KRL had lost five second innings wickets with only 95 runs on the board, they had an overall lead of 196 runs by the close.
PTCL, eight for no wicket overnight, were bundled out for 112 by the KRL attack with Yasir Arafat, Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Asif taking three wickets each. KRL had scored 213 in their first innings.
In the KRL second innings, slow left arm bowler Muhammad Hussain picked up three for 22. Ali Naqvi scored 42 runs.
At the Army Cricket Ground, Wapda amassed 355 replying to Army’s meagre 160, thereby gaining a substantial 195-run lead.
The highlight of the second day was a run-a-ball 76 by Muhammad Zaman who smashed nine boundaries and three sixes in his sizzling innings, powering Wapda to a big total. The other batsman to do well was Tariq Aziz, his innings of 62 featured 10 fours.
Capt Nabeel and Zubair Wattoo were the wicket-takers for Army snapping up three apiece while Mushtaq Ahmed chipped in with two for 82. Army were 34 for three off 18 overs in their second innings.
At Islamabad’s Shalimar Cricket Ground, POF hit up 260 for eight on the second day of the match. There was no play on the first day because of a wet pitch.
Ahsan Masood was POF’s top scorer, cracking 90 runs and together with Usman Tahir who contributed 62, put on 110 runs for the third wicket.
Naseer Ahmed Jnr claimed four wickets for 83 runs.

Our Lahore Sports Correspondent adds: Off-spinner Khalid Bashir’s six-wicket haul helped Railways to earn 30-run vital lead on first innings against Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the Patron’s Trophy Inter- departmental qualifying round at Railways Stadium on Saturday.
Khalid’s six wickets cost him 54 runs as HEC could collect 265 in first innings while replying to Railways first innings total of 295 after resuming at four without loss.
Railways extended the lead to 80 by scoring 50 for two in the second innings by close of play.
Opener Majid Ali (61, 12 fours) and Atif Ijaz (43, five fours) were the only prominent scorers for HEC.
Khalid was also supported by another off-spinner Khalil Ahmad who snared batsmen for 73.
A sparkling century by opener Salman Butt (190) enabled National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to obtain 43-run lead on first innings against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), at the Lahore Country Club, Muridke, according to a message received here.
Salman faced 240 balls but missed the double century as leg- spinner Javed Hayat had him leg before when he was only 10 runs away of the milestone. Salman with Naumanullah (76, 190 balls) also added 163 runs in the second wicket partnership.
Right-arm pacers Naseer-ud-Din (4-107) and Asif Khan (3-89) helped Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to earn eight runs lead on first innings against Service Industries, despite a fine unbeaten century by Asif Iqbal (137).
PAF bowled Service Industries out for a total of 300 in first innings against their own total of 308. Asif faced 211 balls during his stay.
A century by opener Mohammad Hafeez (152, 20 fours, one six) and a half-century by Misbah-ul-Haq (79, 10 fours, one six) helped Sui Gas to earn 252-run lead on first innings after declaring at 349 for five in reply of HBL’s total of 97 at Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot.
Leg-spinner Abdul Rehman took three wickets for 100.
By close of play, HBL were 145 for four and still facing defeat. They require 107 runs with six wickets in hand to avoid any innings defeat.
Fiery bowling by Tauqir Hussain (4-44) and Umair Khan (4-19) helped SAGA to force Leo International on follow-on at Jinnah Stadium Gujranwala.
SAGA, who had scored 292 in the first innings, bowled Leo out for a paltry 111.
After follow-on Leo fared a little better to score 164 for six. Safdar Niazi (50), Fahad Liaqat (31 not out) and Hassnain Abbas (37) were the major contributors.
Allied Bank Limited (ABL) trounched Pakistan Education Board (PEB) inside two days winning by an innings and 72 runs on Saturday.
PEB who were dismissed for 52 in their first innings, were shot out for 128 in their second innings. ABL had scored 252 for two declared in their first innings.
