KARACHI, Nov 1: Mega Hit, a thoroughbred bay horse after his thrilling victory over Departure On Time last week with jockey M. Nasir in the saddle, is on song to register another triumph for owner A. Haider, when the Fifth Day of the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Participating in the last event on the afternoon’s programme with 11 other runners vying for the spoils, Mega Hit should relish the extra furlong and pass the winning post ahead of Lover’s Lady and the promising chestnut filly Innendo, with Satellite Star completing the frame.
All in all, seven races have been chalked up. The first six will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, while the last race will go over six.
The first race begins at 12.00 noon.
In the opener with 14 runners lining up at the starting gate, Jango, who disappointed his followers last week finishing third behind Wondering Eyes and Silent Fire, should make amends if called upon to deliver the goods, earning a measure of revenge over Silent Fire and Rukhsar.
Humayun Mirza’s dark bay gelding Sajan Black should romp home to victory closely followed by Mrs. Yasmin’s K. Khan’s thoroughbred bay horse Dauntless and Much Better in the second race.
Evershine, another gelding from the same stable is fancied in our columns to canter home to victory ahead of Sher Zai and Knight Gambler in the next event with Sea Biscuit and Royal Beauty joining the fray.
Lovely Concept, after a splendid victory last week after lying in the shadows for over one and half years, should not lose the next event, with Trust You and Grey Boy battling it out for the second berth.
Ali Gohar Shah should have another winner, if his chestnut horse Shining Steel beaten into second place week ago, is called upon to do the trick by finishing ahead of Nawab and Yaqoob Choice in the fifth race.
After beaten on the post last time out by Mega Hit, Departure On Time, although penalised to carry a heavy burden of nine stones four pounds on his back, still has the class to get the better of the promising bay colt Star Of The Day and Thousand Up, in a big field of 18 runners.
