PESHAWAR, Oct 30: An anti-terrorism court here on Thursday convicted six men of committing a dacoity and sentenced them to 31 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs1,61,000 each.

The court, presided over by Akhter Zareef Khan, sentenced the six convicts on five different counts to different prison terms.

The court observed that keeping in view the nature of the offence their sentences would run consecutively and not concurrently.

The convicts– Khan Shah, Munir, Ali Akber, Afzal Khan, Dawa Khan and Hazrat Muhammad– were charged with committing the dacoity at the residence of a PIA officer, Sultan Muhammad, on April 8.

AN FIR was registered against them with the University Town police station.

According to the prosecution the six men forcefully entered the residence of the complainant and looted 149 tolas of jewellry, Rs500,000 cash, electric appliances and other goods from the residence.

The court sentenced them to 10 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000, under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act; 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 under section 455 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC); 7 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 under section 387 of the Pakistan Penal Code; three years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs10,000 under section 148/149 of the Pakistan Penal Code; and one year imprisonment with a fine of Rs1,000 under section 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Public prosecutor Mushtaq Ahmad contended that the accused-defendants were identified by the complainant during the identification parade.
