KARACHI, Oct 29: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi has stressed the need for close co-ordination among the city government, KESC and the National Highway Authority and all other organizations concerned with the Lyari Expressway and Northern Bypass projects so that the ongoing development schemes could be completed in time.

Addressing a high level meeting at his office on Wednesday, he called upon the organizations related to Northern Bypass project and the NHA to send recommendations to the DCO about developmental matters in order to ensure the participatory function of city government as well as citizens.

At the meeting, a progress report was presented about the installation of electric lights, repair of roads, and works related to water and sewerage system at Mauripur road, Estate Avenue, Gulbai, Paracha Chowk, SITE and Shershah.

The meeting was informed that work on Mauripur road was temporarily stopped because of water and sewerage works. The KESC had also installed 11 feeders there while after the installation of three more feeders, work on this road would be restarted.

The meeting was informed that because of excavation work by KWSB from Gulbai to Paracha Chowk, the electric poles were not being installed on right side of the road. The chief secretary directed the concerned officials to complete the poles installation on either side after the completion of KWSB work. He said the departments responsible for under-ground installations, should ensure proper covering of manholes.

Mr Kazi asked the DCO to get the drainage work at SITE completed at the earliest through the concerned department.

When the chief secretary was informed that many poles were lying on roads in Shershah, he directed the officials to remove the hurdles in development projects.

Among others, the meeting was attended by KESC Chief Engineer Shabbir Ahmad Solangi, Northern Bypass Project Director Tufail Ahmad Shaikh and KESC Superintendent Engineer Amin Ansari. —APP/PPI
