KARACHI: BIE to issue revised certificates: Grace marks

KARACHI, Oct 29: The Sindh governor, who is controlling authority of the educational boards in the province, has restored the rules regarding award of two per cent grace marks to the failures of matriculation and intermediate examinations.
A notification of the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, said on Wednesday that board was making necessary arrangements in line with the governor’s directive and revised mark-sheets of those getting relief would be issued shortly.
The results of all eligible candidates shall be declared in the press and new mark sheets would be issued on the submission of previous marks certificates.
The provision of awarding grace up to 11 marks in the case of failures was done away in the year 1998 on the directive of the then Sindh governor. The governor has already announced grace marks up to two per cent, ie 22 marks in the case of intermediate students, to the failures of SSC or HSC annul or supplementary examinations between 1999 and 2002.
Under the fresh directives, grant of one per cent grace marks to failures would be effective from annual examination of 2003.
A candidate of the secondary school certificate would get up to seven marks, while the HSC examination failures would get a maximum of 11 marks to clear their respective examinations.
A source at the BIE Karachi said that the results of Part-II annual examinations for all the faculties are being reviewed and a number of candidates are likely to get benefit of the government’s offer.
It is likely that within two weeks time lists of different faculty would be prepared, following which candidates would be required to surrender their old mark sheets, added the source.
