PESHAWAR, Oct 24: An opposition group has been formed by 28 members of the city district council, who elected Arbab Tariq as their leader on Thursday.

This was announced in the district council session, presided over by Convener Dr Iqbal Khalil.

Anwarul Hassen Advocate was elected the deputy opposition leader.

When the session started, the members of the group requested the convener to allot them separate benches.

Talking to newsmen later, Mr Tariq said the opposition would table a no-trust motion against District Nazim Azam Afridi if he did not change his attitude.

He said Mr Afridi was ignoring the council members and had failed to solve their problems. He said the indifference of the nazim had forced the members to form the opposition group.
