PESHAWAR, Oct 23: More than 100 pornographic CDs and cassettes, and a few bottles of aphrodisiacs were set on fire at the Karkhano bazaar here on Thursday.
General secretary of the local traders committee Haji Binyameen who collected these items from shops and kiosks at the Karkhano bazaar said that shopkeepers would not be allowed to sell obscene films any more.
Talking to Dawn he said that the committee had now increased the fine for keeping pornographic CDs and cassettes in shops from Rs5,000 to Rs20,000.
Still, a large number of roadside kiosks in Karkhano bazaar were selling porn films openly, an onlooker said.
“They may stop the sale during Ramazan, but it cannot be completely stopped,” he said.
The superintendent of police cantt, Mohammad Edris said all police stations were instructed to seize x-rated movies, CDs and cassettes in their jurisdictions during the holy month of Ramazan.
This correspondent on the occasion saw many CDs of children’s cartoon show Tom and Jerry, Indian films, CD cleaners and some bottles of hair removing lotion burn to ashes.
