KARACHI, Oct 23: Seven ships carrying soyabean meal, rock phosphate and chemicals are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage on Friday, according to KPT sources.

Berthing activity at the wharves was modest where four ships, Kota Indah and Hyundai Highway to unload and load containers, Marinor to load ethanol and Al-Maqwa to offload high speed diesel.

Two ships, APL Emerald, Kota Indah departed on Thursday, while Olar, Oriental Stride, Al-Maqwa, and Al-Ihsaa are due to sail out on Friday.

Cargo handling activity at the wharves was active where a total tonnage of 74,122 tons comprising 16,170 tons of export cargo and 57,952 tons of import tonnage was handled.

The following ships are due on Friday: Cape Henry, Wehr Havel, Global Progress, with containers, Target, with rock phosphate, Taraman Bibi, with jute, Mercs Komari, with 2,500 tons of soyabean meal and Nur Yanbu, with 2,000 tons of chemicals.

Port Qasim

KARACHI, Oct 23: Brisk berthing activity was observed at the port where five ships to load and offload containers and discharge edible oil, general cargo and chemicals were allotted berths during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release on Thursday.

Berth occupancy remained on the higher side as seven ships, Maersk Avon, Serena, Entalina, Brygen, Ikan Suji, Ginga Saker and Ponto Dromon were busy in loading/unloading containers, edible oil, general cargo, chemicals and coal.

A cargo volume of 63,856 tons comprising 47,927 tons of import tonnage including 13,176 tons of edible oil and 9,722 tons of coal and 15,929 tons of export cargo was handled.

Sailing was slow as only one ship, Maersk Avon, departed. A ship, Ermis, carrying iron ore was awaiting its berthing turn at the outer anchorage, while Ayrshire was due to arrive.
