KARACHI, Oct 9: The judicial magistrate, South, Ms Aliya Anver, sent on Thursday two ASIs to jail during the proceedings of contempt of court notice against them.

ASI Murad Ali of Nazimabad police and Abdul Hakeem of New Karachi police were earlier served with the contempt of court notices for not complying with the repeated orders of the court.

The court summoned the two police officials several times. However, they did not turn up and the court finally issued contempt of court notice against them.

The two were required to produce the prosecution witnesses in different cases. However, they repeatedly failed to bring the witnesses. Nor did they appear in the court for recording their deposition.

The judge ordered the jail authorities to produce the two policemen before the court on Oct 21 when she would take up the proceedings of contempt of court against them.

IDENTIFIED: Two accused in a murder-cum-robbery case were identified by the complainant before a judicial magistrate.

The accused, Humayoon Qureshi and Abdul Basit, were produced in the court of the judicial magistrate, Jahangir Dayo, where Hasan Aamir, the elder brother of the victim, identified them.

According to prosecution, the two accused entered the Virtual Net Cafe in Shadman Town for committing robbery. The alleged bandits opened fire when Syed Usman Khalil, a student of MBA and owner of the internet cafe, struggled with them. Khalil received a bullet wound and died instantly, while the two bandits fled the scene.

Later, the Gulbahar police arrested the two accused on Oct 4 during snap checking and seized unlicensed weapons from them.

The brother of the victim identified Humayoon Qureshi, who had opened the fire and killed his brother.

The judge remanded the two accused to the police till Oct 13 after the investigation officer told the court that the two accused were required for further interrogation and for recovery of the weapon they had used in the offence.

BAIL GRANTED: The district and sessions judge, South, Agha Rafique Ahmed, granted bail to six men, who were booked and arrested for injuring a shoe vender.

The Risala police arrested Salim, Habib Ullah, Akram, Najeebullah, Ali Ahmed and Pir Mohammed on Sept 9 for breaking the legs of Rizwan near Light House. The judge gave them bail in the sum of Rs50,000 each.

REMANDED: Two local pop singers, who were allegedly caught red-handed with contraband charas, were remanded to the police for interrogation till Oct 13.

Sohail Ali and Ausaf were arrested on Wednesday night by the Landhi police, with one kg charas.
