THATTA, Oct 8: Activists of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) observed a token hunger strike outside the press club on Wednesday to protest against the alleged excesses of district Nazim Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi.
The protesters included MPAs Sassui Palijo, Humera Alwani, former MNAs Babu Ghulam Hussain Memon, Haji Usman Jalbani, member PPP Sindh Council Aijaz Ali Khwaja, district president Dr Wahid Soomro, Pir Ghulam Rabbani, Mohammad Din Memon, Syed Masood Mustafa Shah, district president ladies wing Rehana Leghari and others.
Condemning the registration of over half a dozen fake cases against Rehana Leghari, party’s ladies wing president, by the district Nazim and his recent attempt to grab her fish farm, spreading over 400 acres in Churetani village through Thatta police, Sattar Lohar, Ghulam Ali Khwaja, Imtiaz Qureshi and others said that by abusing his official authority the district Nazim had crossed all the limits of ethics, traditions and custom. He had betrayed the claim of his master General Pervez Musharraf that his government had restored rights, dignity and sanctity of women, the PPP leaders said.
Speaking on the occasion, Rehana Leghari said,
the Thatta police raided her fish farm on Tuesday night on the orders of district Nazim and picked up her men, including the manager of the fish farm.
She announced that hunger strikes in the remaining eight talukas of the district would also be observed.
STRIKE: A complete strike was observed in Sujawal town on Wednesday to mourn the death of MNA Moulana Azam Tariq.
A procession was taken out from the main seminary which marched through the main thoroughfares of the town.
Wearing black armbands participants raised slogans against the government failure to nab the killers.
