KARACHI: Ulema urged to promote peace and harmony


KARACHI, Oct 8: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has urged religious scholars, administration and social circles to preach brotherhood and harmony and help maintain peace in the society.

Talking to scholars belonging to different schools of thought, at the Governor’s House on Wednesday, he said scholars had played a tremendous role for peace, and expressed the hope that they would continue to do so.

Expressing profound grief over the recent terrorist activities, the governor said that anti-social elements would not be allowed to exploit these incidents to disturb peace and harmony in the country.

He called for joint efforts to eliminate such elements and added that administration should be given time to apprehend the miscreants, as immediate reaction might divert the concentration of administration.

He urged the scholars to guide the people in the right direction as their emotions were heightened.

Ibad said that government was making all out efforts to bring the culprits to justice, adding that some of the accused had been nabbed, while the remaining would soon be apprehended.

The scholars on the occasion apprised the governor of their recommendations and suggestions, which he listened keenly.

Provincial minister for religious affairs, Irfan Gul Magsi, Chief Secretary, Dr Mutawakal Qazi, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, DG Rangers, Haji Hanif Tayyab, Allama Furqan Haider Abidi, Ilyas Zubair, Prof Ali Raza Shah Naqvi, Shah Turabul Haq Qadri, Maulana Ferozeuddin Rehmani and top police officers were also present on the occasion.

HOSPITAL STANDARD: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has called for determining the criterion for minimum standard for all the hospitals in Sindh and directed the health department for formal dissemination of the criterion.

He was addressing a meeting of administrators of government-run hospitals and EDOs health from all over the province, who were especially invited to the governor’s house here on Wednesday.

The governor talked to them about health facilities being provided in the province and listened to their problems. The participants of the meeting lauded the interest shown by the governor and termed the meeting a historical step. They said it was the first time that such a meeting had been called.

Sindh chief secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi, principal secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, secretary health Ashique Hussain Memon, additional advocate general Qazi Khalid Ali, director general health Dr Ghulam Qadir Memon, MNA Haider Rizvi, city police chief Asad Ashraf Malik and 110 medical superintendents and EDOs attended the meeting.

He said that various complaints and recommendations had been received about the health sector which were thoroughly reviewed, and it was decided that a meeting of the officers concerned be convened.

“All the departments providing facilities to the masses are equally important. However, the real focus of the health sector is to serve the ailing humanity, so persons associated with this sector have to discharge their responsibilities with compassion. —PPI
