ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: Rupesh Roy of India and Pakistan’s Shahzad Khan were among those on Tuesday who booked their quarterfinal berths in the second leg of the ITF International Juniors tennis tournament at the Islamabad Club.

It was a cakewalk for Rupesh, winner of the first leg of the tournament last week, as he crushed Yahya Nauman 6-1, 6-0.

Shahzad too had an easy day as he warmed up for the tougher matches ahead with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Ali Abdullah.

Others going through to the quarters were Indians Sumit Gupta, Vivek Shokeen and Lalit Mann and Sri Lankan Nashendiran Sivendiran. The Pakistanis, besides Shahzad, who checked in were Wasif Cheema and Mutib Pasha.

Mutib, playing against wildcard Danish Ahmed, had to sweat for victory that came in over three hours. He won 6-3, 6-7(5), 7- 6(5) while Wasif brushed aside Kaushik Das of India 6-0, 6-1.

Lalit Mann outplayed Tanveer Ashiq 6-3, 6-3 without much difficulty and Vivek Shokeen beat Shahrukh Niazi 6-0, 7-5. Sumit Gupta then completed what was a fine day for the Indians with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Adnan Khan.

Sivendiran, the only Sri Lankan featuring in the pre-quarters handed Peerakit Siributwong a 7-5, 6-4 defeat.

Meanwhile Indians Shweta Kakhandki and Daksha Mulay advanced to the girls singles semfinals with easy victories over their respective rivals.

Shweta knocked out her compatriot Poojashree Venkatesh 6-3, 6-2 and Daksha blew Pakistan’s Saba Aziz away scoring a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Also making the last four were Thailand’s Punjaporn Wannasuk, who downed Anoosha Aslam 6-1, 6-1 and Nungundda Ditthim, a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Sri Lankan Amita Arudpragasam.
