India may opt for three spinners

AHMEDABAD (India), Oct 6: India may deploy a three-pronged spin attack to exploit New Zealand’s weakness against slow bowling in the first Test in Ahmedabad starting on Wednesday, coach John Wright said.

India are certain to include off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and leg-break bowler Anil Kumble, but leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule, the third spinner in the 14-man squad, has not played since appearing in his second Test two years ago.

“It could be a possibility,” Wright said on Monday when asked if India might play a third spinner in the first match of the two-Test series.—Reuters
