KARACHI, Oct 6: Left-hander Mohammad Ghazan missed out scoring a century by just two runs in the latest round of the PCB Inter-district cricket tournament matches which concluded on Monday.

Ghazan’s 98 which included 11 boundaries, however, helped KCCA Zone-IV gain first innings points over Zone-I in the two-day drawn tie at the Student Cricket Ground. Zone-IV eventually made 330 in 89.5 overs in reponse to Zone-I’s 213.

Zone-I then batted out the remaining time to reach 30 for two in their second innings.

Zone-VI earned a 75-run lead on the first innings over Zone-VII in their game at the Asifabad Sports Ground.

Batting first, Zone-VI amassed 359 for nine in their allotted quota of 90 overs with Imran Javed (92), Rizwan Qureshi (86) and Mansoor Baig (71) being the chief scorers.

Zone-VII, in reply, were bowled out for 284 in 73 overs despite half-centuries by opener Khurram Ibrahim (62) and Iqbal Shaikh (51).

Young Irfanuddin took the bowling honours by picking up four for 83 while fellow off-spinner Aftab Ahmed claimed three for 41.

Zone-VI lost second innings wickets in scoring 35 as the match petered out in a dull draw.

Zone-III were the other side to clinch three points after obtaining a lead of 79 runs against Zone-II at the TMC Ground.

APP adds from Peshawar: Right-arm fast bowler Riaz Afridi finished with a match bag of nine for 70 as Fata secured an easy 10-wicket victory over Afghanistan at the University Ground.

Riaz bowled with hostility to scuttle the visitors’ first innings for 135 with splendid figures of six for 50 in 18 overs. He then took three for 20 in the second knock as Afghanistan limped to 154 all out after being forced to follow on.

Muhammad Nabi was the only Afghan batsman to show grit and determination in making a rapid 78 off only 81 balls.

Earlier, Fata, who won the toss and elected to bat, piled up 248 in their first innings. Almar Khan hit 13 boundaries and two sixes on his way to 89. Asmatullah was the other main scorer with 59 that contained five hits to the ropes.

Needing a meagre 41 for victory, Fata reached their target easily.
