IMWU calls for unity among Muslim women

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: The International Muslim Women Union (IMWU) secretary-general here on Monday stressed upon unity among the Muslim women stating that it was the only way to effectively deal with the precarious challenging circumstances being faced by the Muslim world.

“Muslims faces numerous problems. There is a need for unity, understanding and mutual cooperation among the Muslim women for effective steps to be taken to deal with these problems,” said IMWU Secretary General Dr Ehsan Abdullah.

She was speaking at a press briefing on the conclusion of five-day conference of the IMWU.

Pledging on behalf of the IMWU to address problems of women world over, she asked the Muslim Ummah to follow the teachings of Islam. The IMWU will raise voice for the just and peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue, she added.

Speaking on the occasion, IMWU Assistant Secretary General Senator Dr Firdous Kausar said the union was working to improve the image of Muslims and was striving to bring positive changes in Muslim societies.

“The world must become a peaceful place. The IMWU vehemently condemns terrorism and will continue its war against oppression to restore peace,” she said.

In its declaration, the IMWU suggested that women all over the world could play effective role for peace, independence and extinction of injustices.

The declaration said Islamic teachings provided complete code of life, clearly mentioned the rights of women and rejected all other ideologies which contradicted religious principles.

The IMWU observed that family was the basic unit of society and a stable family system promoted organized societies forming basis for a peaceful, enlightened and welfare state.

The IMWU believes that the Organization of Islamic Conference member states in general and federal and provincial governments of Pakistan in particular should take effective steps to pass legislation ensuring economic, social, political and legal rights of women in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Members of the IMWU said looking after the home and nourishing children were more valuable and important for a woman than any economic activity. However, to support themselves as well as community needs, a woman can perform duties outside the four walls of her home, they added.

The IMWU also declared that it was fighting for the rights of Muslim women around the globe in accordance with the UN Charter and Universal Declaration on Human Rights.
