LARKANA, Sept 29: The district government, Larkana, finally decided to launch community-supported schools in the district with the recruitment of female teachers only.
Under the plan, out of 270 closed primary (boys and girls) schools in the district, 210 schools would be reopened.
Due to the lukewarm attitude of the education department, the scheme, which was approved on April 4, 2002, did not take off, sources in the department told this correspondent on Monday.
Only local female candidates with a minimum qualification of matric and without any age restrictions would be appointed in the community-supported schools making it mandatory to have at least 20 students in the school.
The job would not be transferable and every teacher under this three-year project would get a fix salary of Rs2,500, the sources said while the community would provide infrastructure facility at the schools.
The district coordination officer (DCO), Larkana, Dr Badruddin Ujjan, recently held a meeting regarding it which arrived at the conclusion that the recruitment process should end by Oct 10 and at least 210 closed schools should be made functional.
Sources in the district Nazim’s office told this correspondent that a three-member committee has begun interviews.
They said that under the project, 134 boys schools and 123 girls schools would be reopened by 2004. An amount of Rs8.18 million has already been allocated by the district government for the purpose.
They said that with this project, around 4,200 students would be provided education, while 210 educated girls would be provided jobs.
