PESHAWAR, Sept 28: Speakers at a conference on Sunday stressed the need for greater unity among all the sects under the umbrella of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Jamaat-i-Islami in connection with the 100th birth anniversary its founder, Abul Aala Maududi, at Nishter Hall, they called for strengthening the alliance and urged  its leadership to keep it intact to promulgate Islamic system in the country.

The party’s Naib Amir, Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Saleemi said the credit went to Maulana Maududi for bringing Ulema of all sects on a platform for preparing the Objectives Resolution that served as a foundation of all the constitutions of the country.

He said Maulana Maududi launched a movement against Ahmadis, although he was a supporter of minorities’ rights.

He said the major component parties of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal should discharge their responsibilities in a better way and remove the grievances of their smaller partners.

Provincial Jammaat-i-Islami chief Senator Prof Mohammad Ibrahim said the projections of the party as a separate sect was baseless.

Senator S.M. Zafar said the Muslims were facing immense challenges in the unipolar world in the aftermath of the 9/11 crisis.

Speaker of the NWFP Assembly Bakht Jehan Khan, senior provincial minister Sirajul Haq and Prof Pareshan Khattak also spoke.
