HYDERABAD: PML unification welcomed

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 21: The vice-president, Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Azad bin Haider, has congratulated the presidents of five factions of the PML for unifying the party saying that the unification of the PML was the need of the hour.

He was speaking at a press conference at the press club on Sunday.

He said the decision had won the hearts of PML workers and infused new blood in their veins.

He welcomed the announcement of a Rs10.5-billion package for the development of Hyderabad by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and stressed the need for accelerating the pace of development in the district.

He called upon the district Nazims, MPAs, MNAs and senators of the defunct Larkana and Sukkur divisions to prepare development packages for their respective areas to enable the prime minister to announce development packages for upper Sindh also.

He urged the district Nazims to contact the provincial education minister for the appointment of teachers on merit basis for 3,700 schools which were lying closed in the province.

Answering a question as to whether various factions of the PML were still working as separate entities, Mr Haider quoted Pir Saheb Pagaro saying that “it was unification and not merger”.

He said the PML leaders of various factions were scheduled to meet on Tuesday where modalities will be worked out and a unified council will be named.

Answering another question about rebellious PML leaders and workers who were protesting for the last five days, he said that the PML was a democratic party and dissatisfied workers had the democratic right to protest.

He said he had already met with the members of the action committee and given them an assurance that they were at full liberty to meet the prime minister and the chief minister to highlight their grievances.

He said he, himself, had been a humble worker of the party throughout his life and he held workers in high esteem.

REBEL GROUP: Former provincial vice president PML(Q) and member central committee of the party, Choudhry Saifullah has warned that if the self-respect of the sincere workers of the party was not restored within 15 days then the scope of the protest would be extended to the whole of Sindh.

He was speaking at a press conference at the press club on Sunday.

The president, Youth Wing of the party, Mohammad Shafique; the provincial vice-president, MSF; Rizwan Channar, Saud Farooqui, Shabbir Hussain and other leaders were also present on the occasion.

He said that the party workers had kept the party flag flying for years without any reward, but even after PML(Q) came into power, the sincere workers had been constantly ignored.

He said the prime minister, the Sindh chief minister, party advisers do not even care to meet with the workers what to talk of resolving their problems.

He said the prime minister and Sindh chief minister had stayed in Hyderabad for two days but they had declined to meet the workers.

He said the result was that even the local administration refused to meet the workers of the ruling party.

He said it was with a heavy heart that a large number of workers had tendered their resignations.

He said even today the angry workers were with the party and they considered Choudhry Shujaat Hussain as their leader.

He said their protest was against those who had become ministers and advisers because of the workers but were now ignoring them.

He warned that if the self-respect of the workers was not restored, the scope of the protest would be extended to the entire province.

He said that a large number of workers from Karachi and interior Sindh had already contacted him in this regard.
