CNS qualifying rounds from today


KARACHI, Sept 15: Sixteen players will be batting for four qualifying berths in the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) International Squash Championship which gets underway at Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan/ Jahangir Khan Squash Complex from Tuesday.

Farrukh Zaman of Pakistan, ranked 44th in the world is top seeded for the qualifying rounds. Hisham Mohad Ashour from Egypt is seed two with world ranking 58.

Other Pakistanis featuring the qualifying rounds included Aijaz Azmat, Arshad Iqbal Burki and Shams-ul-Islam Khan.

Four more Pakistanis including Khalid Atlas, Yasir Butt, Waseem Shad and Jahangir Khan joined them after securing top four places in the pre-qualifying stage of the tournament which concluded Monday.

Four top players from qualifying rounds will join the other 12 to complete the draw of 16.

The main rounds of US$25,000 prize money event start from Sept 18.

Former squash wizard and President, World Squash Federation Jahangir Khan will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony.

Gregory Gaulitier of France is top seeded for the main draw while Mansoor Zaman of Pakistan is seeded two.

Meanwhile, eight foreign stars have arrived so far in Karachi and other three remaining players have confirmed their arrival on Tuesday to particpate in CNS Squash International Championship.

The CNS International Squash Championship has entered into qualifing round. A total number of 16 players will participate in the qualifying round out of which four players have been promoted from pre-qualifiers and 12 are Pakistan Squash Association (PSA) nominees.

The players who have arrived are Gregory Gaultier (France), Ranan Levign (France), Hisham Ashour (Egypt), Laurens Anjuman (Holland), Liam Kenny (Ireland), Glen Keeran (Egypt), Peter Barker (Egypt) and Alistar Walker (Egypt).
