LAHORE, Sept 15: The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Test discard Qaiser Abbas as Pakistan Under-23 captain in place of Junaid Zia after the PCB chief’s intervention who asked the selectors that his son should not be named skipper.
“Now Qaiser will lead the side and we obey the decision of Tauqir Zia since he is the final authority,” the chairman of selectors Aamir Sohail told APP on Monday.
On Sunday, Junaid was named skipper of the squad to represent Pakistan U-23s in the Emerging Trophy in Colombo (Sri Lanka) later this month.
The selectors had initially recommended Junaid as captain but the PCB chief overruled that decision by saying “I respect the decision of the selectors but in my opinion Junaid is too young to handle a team and in the given choices Qaiser Abbas be appointed
