HYDERABAD: Ugandan prisoner dies in jail

HYDERABAD, Sept 11: A Ugandan prisoner died in the central jail hospital on Wednesday.

The jail superintendent, Muzaffar Alam Siddiqui, said Magrura Bakaki, 48, was sent from the Karachi prison on June 29, 2002 after being convicted for three and half years of rigorous imprisonment in a narcotics case by a court.

He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs10,000 or undergo another one month in the jail in case of non-payment of fine. The prisoner was under treatment at the civil hospital from July 19 to Aug 30 after being paralysed.

He was sent back to the jail hospital where the doctors of the civil hospital continued his treatment.

The prison chief said the body was removed to the civil hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Mr Siddiqui said relatives of the dead foreigner had been informed through e-mail about his death.
