PESHAWAR, Sept 9: Two confirmed judges of the Peshawar High Court will be administered oath on Wednesday under the 1973 Constitution.

The judges, Justice Fazalur Rehman Khan and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, had been appointed additional judges of the high court last year and they had been confirmed by President Pervez Musharraf after completion of one year of service. The chief justice of the high court, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan will administer oath to them.

Legal fraternity expressed its surprise over the strange mix of judges at the high court, saying that all other judges had taken oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order and they had not been administered fresh oath under the 1973 Constitution after the introduction of the democratic order in the country.

With the confirmation of these two judges the strength of Peshawar High Court judges would rise to 14, while the sanctioned seats for the high court are 15. One of the seat had become vacant after the departure of Justice Khalida Rachied, who was recently appointed a judge of the International Criminal Court for Rwanda.
