SUKKUR, Sept 9: The deputy speaker, Sindh Assembly, Rahila Tiwana, said that a resolution against honour killing would be tabled in the Sindh Assembly for passing a law according to which the culprits could be tried in the Anti-Terrorism Court.

She said this while speaking at a seminar on Karo-kari at the Circuit House, Sukkur, on Monday.

She said that many innocent people were being killed in order to settle scores with their enemies while giving it the colour of Karo-kari, which was a stigma on the cultural traditions of civil society.

Referring to the Holy Quran, she said that it gave a com-

plete code of life for Muslims where both males and females enjoy equal rights, dignity and status.

She said therefore, the female members have basic rights of being given respect and honour in the culture of Sindh.

The deputy speaker appealed to the people to wage Jihad against the social evil of honour killings and thus protect the innocent people to enable them to live a peaceful life free from the dangers of exploitation and victimization.

She urged the elected representatives, NGOs, educationists and other people representing all walks of life to go house-to-house and village-to-village to create awareness among the people about such types of social evils.

The executive district officer (Revenue), Sukkur, Mohammad Mobeen Khan, underlined the need for creating social awareness among the people about the evil practice of Karo-kari because no society could develop without community participation.

The EDO (Education), Sukkur, Prof Rafia Naz Pathan, said that the main reason for male domination was lack of female education, particularly in rural areas.

ACCIDENT: A man was killed and 17 other people were injured when a Jacobabad-bound bus collided head-on with a Karachi-bound bus at a bye-pass near Naushahro Feroze on Monday.

The Jacobabad-bound bus (LHO-7390) collided with the Karachi-bound bus (P-2135) as a result of which Pir Bux, 40, was killed, and 17 other people were injured.
