Delhi calls off militants’ hunt

JAMMU (India), Sept 8: India’s armed forces on Monday called off a marathon operation to flush out seven Muslim militants the military said were hiding in a forest in Kashmir.

Kashmir state police Inspector-General P.L. Gupta said the six-day hunt by hundreds of soldiers for the elusive guerrillas in the dense jungles of Kathua district had produced no results. “We tried to search the whole area and did not find anyone, so we are calling off the operation,” Gupta announced at a press conference.—AFP
