PESHAWAR, Sept 7: The city police chief on Sunday claimed to have resolved the mystery of the triple-murder case by arresting two persons, and asserted that the remaining two would be netted shortly.

Speaking at a press conference here at the Police Headquarters, Capital City Police chief Tanvir-ul-Haq Sipra said the investigation team after probing many friends of the deceased finally reached to the conclusion that it was a robbery case and two friends of Samir, Shahid and Adil, along with their two accomplices killed three persons after snatching money.

Interestingly, since the occurrence of the murders on July 24, the police had claimed on a number of occasion of resolving the mystery and came out with different theories.

Samir Zia alias Sunni, son of Ziauddin; his friend and neighbour Imran Riaz, son of late Prof Riaz, and a watchman Changez, son of Nawab, were killed at the house of Samir in Rasheed Town area of Gulbahar on July 24 and the murderers reportedly took away a large amount from the lockers.

The police initially interrogated Faisal and Anas, friend and cousin of Samir, respectively. But, both of them, despite remaining in captivity for quite long denied the murder charges.

The police had a theory that Anas had hired some professional murderers and also involved Faisal to kill Samir as he had a grudge with the deceased over some family matters.

Faisal got bail from the court of law on Saturday, while Anas was freed as police failed to get confession from him.

According to sources, Anas has gone abroad on fake passport after changing his name and the police after freeing him realised their blunder.

The city police chief said they had been working from four different angles, and one was robbery, which proved to be correct under the light of interrogation of former watchmen of Samir’s residence and the deceased’s friends.

A latter found from the residence of Samir also helped resolve the triple-murder mystery, Mr Sipra said.

He said the unemployed Shahid, a resident of Gulbahar, was one of Samir’s close friends, who planned to rob him. Shahid involved Adil, a resident of Charsadda, and two others in the plan and also took into confidence the two deceased — Imran and Changez, Mr Sipra said.

He claimed that both Shahid and Adil confessed the murders during the interrogation and they also told the police that they had taken away Rs257,000 and 12,000 pound sterling from Samir’s residence.

The CCP chief said they had recovered Rs50,000 on the pointation of Shahid and also got into possession a hired car used in the murder.

“I really appreciate the police efforts of unfolding the blind triple-murder case and am fully satisfied with the police findings,” Samir’s father said.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Ziauddin, half-heartedly accepting the murderers as a robbers, said few others involved in the murder of his son were still at large and their arrest would expose the reality.
