KARACHI, Sept 4: Contract employees of the newspaper industry are entitled to all benefits and privileges admissible to regular employees.

This was the consensus of speakers at a special sitting of the Karachi APNEC and the Karachi Union of Journalists here on Thursday. The sitting was organized to observe the ninth death anniversary of Nisar Osmani.

Speakers on the occasion paid tribute to the late Mr Osmani for his struggle for the rights of the newspapers employees.

The meeting was presided over by acting APNEC chairman Latif Baloch and PFUJ president Ahfazur Rahman. Qaisar Bengali and trade union leader S.P. Lodhi were guest speakers.

The meeting, through a resolution, rejected the contract system and criticized the delay in the implementation of the 7th Wage Award, which they maintained was binding on the employers after its notification in the official gazette.—APP
