Army, POF, HBL PTCL in semis

QUETTA, Sept 3: Pak Army, POF Wah, PTCL (Juniors) and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) qualified for semifinals of the 25th All Pakistan General Muhammad Musa Gold Cup hockey on Wednesday.

PTCL will play against POF Wah while Pakistan Army will meet HBL in the semifinals.

POF Wah edged out Railwasy 3-2 in the first quarterfinal with Muhammad Zubair, Asif Ali Yasin and Muhammad Irfan scoring for the winners with Nadeem Junior getting the consolation goal for the losers. All the goals were scored in the second half.

The second quarterfinal between Pakistan Army and holders National Bank ended in a 3-2 victory for the former for whom the winner came in the extra time after the teams were locked 2-2 in the stipulated 70 minutes.

Muhammad Zahid Butt, Muhammad Saleem and Asif slammed the goals for Army. Adnan Zakir and Aamir Ishrat scored the bankers.

PTCL booked their semifinal place overcoming China 1-0 with Tariq Yamin converting a penalty corner. China missed a golden opportunity of taking lead but a missed a penalty stroke three minutes before the decider.

Habib Bank earned their semifinal slot beating SSGC 3-2. The match winner of this encounter also came in the extra time.—PPI
