MADRID, Sept 3: A late goal by substitute Antonio Nunez enabled Spanish champions Real Madrid to scrape a 1-1 draw away to a well-organised Villarreal side in their second match of the season at the Madrigal on Tuesday.
The young midfielder, making his league debut for Real, got his head to an outswinging corner from David Beckham just four minutes from time after Villarreal substitute Sonny Anderson had given the home side the lead 13 minutes earlier.
England captain Beckham, who scored the opener in Real’s 2-1 victory over Real Betis on Saturday, had a quieter game in his first away trip for his new club, but went close to grabbing the winner with a fine dipping free kick at the death.
Former Barcelona striker Anderson, who had come off the bench just minutes earlier, put Villarreal ahead when he outpaced defender Ruben before cracking a first-time volley over goalkeeper Iker Casillas and into the net.
