Compensation for fans

NEW YORK, Sept 2: US Open organisers on Monday offered frustrated tennis fans the chance to exchange their tickets for sessions later in the week after rain caused havoc with play on day eight of the grand slam.

Organisers had initially said day session holders could exchange their tickets for the evening session or for tickets over the next three days.

But the evening session was later cancelled when play had not begun by 2145 (0145 GMT).

Day session ticket holders would be allowed to exchange their tickets for the similar session on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, the United States Tennis Association said.

Night session ticket holders could exchange their tickets for those day sessions or for corresponding night sessions at the 2004 U.S. Open, the USTA later added.—Reuters
