RAWALPINDI, Sept 2: One student of Waqarun Nisa College for Women was killed and another injured after being run over by their college bus on Tuesday, police said.
Sonia Pervez and Yomna Ather, students of FA and BA final year, respectively, were walking towards their van when the college bus (IDB-7283) hit them. As a result, Sonia was killed on the spot while Yomna sustained injuries, the police said.
The body and the injured girl were shifted to a hospital, where Yomna was allowed to go after first aid.
Waris Khan police took the bus driver, Muzafar Iqbal, into custody and registered a case against him. The accused had had been driving the college bus for the last 10 years.
Earlier on Monday, one person was killed and another injured after their truck overturned near Mandra, the police said.
Shabbir Khan told the police that he along with Akhtar Khan, Nawaz Khalid and Taj Khan was going to Gujar Khan from Rawalpindi on a truck (DNA-3787) when the vehicle overturned near Mandra due to speeding.
As a result, Taj Khan died on the spot, while Nawaz Khan was injured critically. The truck driver escaped from the scene.
