HYDERABAD, Sept 2: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz will hold a protest demonstration here on Sept 21 against construction of the greater Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam.

This was decided at a meeting of the JSQM central body held here on Monday.

The meeting observed that the water projects were being constructed to irrigate lands allocated to army generals.

It was of the opinion that the rulers had raised the Kalabagh dam issue to divert attention of the people from the Thal canal construction. However, it said the canal construction would be stopped at any cost.

JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi presided over the meeting which was attended by Mujtaba Rashidi, Abdul Wahid Areesar, Dr Niaz Kalani, Dr Arbab Khuhawar and others.

Later, talking to a journalists, Mr Qureshi said the people of Sindh would protest before those ministers and advisers who favoured the disputed water projects and hold them accountable.

He said no one could divide Sindh and added that any move in that direction would be resisted.

He said the members of the Sindh Assembly should resign form their seats and join the struggle against the Kalabagh dam and the Thal canal if President Gen Pervez Musharraf did not honour resolutions the assembly had adopted against the projects.

The JSQM chief said the Sindh Assembly should also adopt a motion condemning the non-implementation of its resolutions against the water projects.

He urged the people to join the JSQM in its struggle against what he called anti-Sindh water projects.

DEMO: A group of jobless trained Tapedars held a demonstration and staged a sit-in outside the press club here on Tuesday, demanding employment.

Talking to journalists, Illahi Bux Bohio, Saifuddin, Karimdad Baladi, Nabi Bux Wassan and others said they had completed their training course in 1996-97 but they were not employed.

They claimed that 400 posts of Tapedars were lying vacant in the province.

They said a senior member of the Board of Revenue had sent a summary for appointment of trained Tapedars but it was yet to be approved by the Sindh governor and the chief minister.

They appealed to the chief Minister and the revenue minister to fill the vacancies of tapedars without any further delay.

Later, they also observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
