WANA: Four houses destroyed in tribal clash

By Sailab Mahsud

WANA, Aug 31: Four houses were destroyed when two sub-tribes of Mahsuds and Wazirs clashed over the ownership of land in Shawol, South Waziristan Agency.

Sources said on Sunday that rivals had pounded with modern weapons each others’ positions in the mountainous area bordering Afghanistan.

About 250 families of the Mahsuds shifted to safer places from Shawol as the shootout intensified. More people belonging to Haibatkhel, sub-tribe of Mahsuds, and Khujdarkhel, sub-tribe of Wazirs, occupied the hilltops and joined the battle after a tribal jirga failed to resolve their dispute.

The two sides used missiles, rockets, mortar guns and other modern weapons in the clash, destroying four houses in a nearby village and killing many cattle heads.

No loss of life was reported.

BLAST: A shop was destroyed when an explosive device went off on Saturday night in Makeen Serai, Wana.

Sources quoted shopkeeper Mohammad Khan as saying that an explosive device was planted in front of his shop, which went off in the night and destroyed the store.

ROCKET ATTACK: Some unknown criminals fired rockets on the house of a resident of Narai village near Makeen here on Saturday night.

Three shells hit the doors and walls of the house of Barkat Khan damaging it. No loss of life was reported.
