Pakistani sailors for Mumbai

KARACHI, Aug 29: Pakistan will feature in the Asian Sailing Championship being held in Mumbai (India) from Jan 4-11, Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSAF) announced on Friday.

Secretary SAF Capt (Retd) A.R.Arshad said that Pakistan was expected to take part Laser, Mistral, Enterprise, 470, Radial and Optimist classes of the championship.

He said prior the Asian sailing, Asian Optimist Sailing Championship will be held at the same venue from Dec 25 to Jan 3.

Five members boys and girls squad will participate in the Optimist championship which is being held under the rule International Dingy Association rules.

During the Asian sailing, Pakistani contestant will figure in individual and team racing.

He said extensive trials to pick Pakistan sailors for various events will be held from the middle of October.

After the trials, sailors will attend training which will be conducted in November/ December and continued till the departure of the team for Mumbai.

He said despite oil spill problem at Clifton beach due to the grounded Tasman Spirit, the sailing activities will continue unaffected at Defence Marina Club and PAF Yacht Club Korangi Creek. —APP
