PM calls for speedy relief operation

JACOBABAD, Aug 26: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday directed authorities concerned to monitor and ensure speedy delivery of relief goods to the rain victims.

He gave the directives following a briefing by the chief minister and chief secretary of Balochistan at the Jacobabad Airport soon after his arrival from Islamabad.

The prime minister, who is on a two-day visit to the area, said it should be ensured that the relief goods were given only to the deserving people.

Mr Jamali was received at the airport by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousaf and other senior officials.

Later, the prime minister left for his native village Rojhan Jamali where he was received by elders of the area.—APP

Our correspondent adds: Arrangements for the visit of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, who is due here on Wednesday, were finalized.

The president will distribute cheques among rain victims and attend a meeting at the Jacobabad circuit house.

Mrs Sehba Musharraf will also accompany the president. She is expected to visit the historic Clock Tower and other monuments built in the period of Gen John Jacob, the founder of Jacobabad.

MAN, DAUGHTER KILLED: A man and his daughter were killed and his wife and brother-in-law were injured when four men barged into his house in Jafferabad, Balochistan, and opened fire on the inmates on Sunday.

Those killed were identified as Hazar Khan Panhiar and his five-year-old daughter, Sabah.

The injured, Sharifan and her brother, Ghulam Haider, were taken to the Jacobabad Civil Hospital in a critical condition.

The motive behind the incident is said to be an old enmity.
