PCB to take over Pindi Stadium

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is to take over the Pindi Cricket Stadium ground, it was officially learnt on Friday.

The negotiations are already underway in this behalf between PCB and the provincial government which owns the stadium right now.

“We may see a positive outcome of these talks sooner than later”, quipped an official of the local administration on condition of anonymity.

Two One Day Internationals will be held at this ground next month—Pakistan vs Bangladesh on Sept 18 and Pakistan against South Africa on Sept 29.

Pindi Cricket Stadium is one of the few cricket venues in the country with lights on it, enabling it to host day-night One Day Internationals but serious reservations have been expressed about the condition of the ground.

The PCB Chairman, Lt. Gen. Tauqir Zia, and PCB chief selector, former Test captain Aamir Sohail, are amongst those who have made no bones about their dissatisfaction with the upkeep of the ground.

Pindi Cricket Stadium was commissioned into service in 1993 and some World Cup 1996 matches were also played here.—APP
