LAHORE, Aug 10: Holding Gen Pervez Musharraf responsible for keeping the Constitution in abeyance, the Jamiat Ulema Pakistan-Nifaz-i-Shariat has said that it would move a court of law against the army chief under Article 6 of the Constitution.
All the dictators who had suspended or abrogated the Constitution in the past should also be prosecuted, the party said.
Party president Engineer Saleemullah Khan told a press conference here on Sunday that those who had surrendered before infidels in East Pakistan in the 1971 war were hell-bound under an injunction of the Holy Quran.
He chided the MMA for providing a respite to the government from the joint opposition’s pressure by deviating its stance on the LFO and uniform.
He asserted that Gen Musharraf would dispose of the MMA after utilizing it for the US agenda for division of Kashmir and confederation with India.
Gen Musharraf had not budged even an inch from his stance on the issues of uniform, presidency and the National Security Council while the MMA had lost its credibility during the talks, he said.
He believed that the joint opposition could again build up pressure on the military dictator and get real democracy restored if the MMA joined hands with it.
The JUP, which had joined the ARD a couple of days ago along with other Sunni organizations, would take out a torch-bearers’ rally from the shrine of Data Ganj Bakhsh on the eve of Independence Day.
