GUJRANWALA, Aug 4: The Punjab Judicial Officers’ Association thanked various lawyers’ bodies on Monday for expressing solidarity with the judiciary after the Sialkot jail tragedy.
The bodies are Pakistan Bar Association, Punjab Bar Council, Supreme Court Bar Association, Lahore High Court Bar Association, and the district Bar associations.
Speaking at a news conference, association president, District and Sessions judge Riazul Hassan Alvi, claimed that the incident affected the performance of the judges.
The LHC CJ, however, restored confidence of the judges.
He announced that the association would give additional 15 per cent salary already enhanced by the government for the heirs of the deceased, besides Rs100,000 cash, a plot each for the widows and free education for their children.
He added that the LHC fact-finding commission was continuing the inquiry into the incident in which Gujranwala Range DIG, Sialkot DPO or any other officer could not be declared guilty till the final report.
The local Bar association and judges offered ghaibana Namaz-i-Janaza for deceased Syed Shehryar Bokhari at the sessions court lawn.
