Rains, floods death toll rises to 153


KARACHI, Aug 2: The death toll caused by rains and floods in Sindh has risen to 153.

A spokesmen for the Sindh government said on Saturday that the rains and floods had paralized civic activities and directly affected over 869,335 people in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Nawabshah, Tharparkar Badin, Thatta, Larkana, Jacobabad and Shikarpur districts. As many as 141,060 houses had been damaged in the province, he said.

A district-wise break-up of the rain-related deaths is 27 deaths in Karachi, seven in Hyderabad, 17 in Dadu, 46 in Badin, nine in Thatta, six in Tharparkar, 27 in Larkana, four in Naushero Feroze, two in Khairpur, five in Nawabshah and three in Shikarpur while 248 people were injured in different areas.

The cropped area in Badin, Hyderabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Jacobabad and Larkana had been extensively damaged while the 9,336 head of cattle had perished, he said.

Over 313 relief camps had been established in different affected areas.

The relief operations had been intensified in all areas affected by rains and floods, the spokesman added.—APP
