ISLAMABAD, July 28: The Met office here has warned of more heavy to very heavy rains in Sindh during the next 48 hours which will add to the miseries of hundreds of thousands of people in the province already severely hit by a persistent wet spell.
“A monsoon depression today lies over eastern Rajisthan, which is associated with the upper level air circulation extended up to mid-tropospheric level. It is likely to move in a west, north-westerly direction. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Sindh during the next 48 hours,” Aamir Shehzad Warsi of the Met office told Dawn.
The rains will further deteriorate the prevailing flood conditions in many parts of Sindh, and the authorities are required to take some quick measures to prevent widespread damage and losses in the province. The Sindh government has already declared the province as ‘calamity hit’ and the federal government has also released an amount of Rs50 million to meet the emergency relief operation requirements.
The Met office warned that the coming rains would be much stronger and would cause greater damage if appropriate measures were not adopted immediately.
Meanwhile, the Met office official said scattered rains with thunder showers were also expected in Punjab, Balochistan and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.
