GUJRANWALA, July 26: The anti-encroachment squad of the City Tehsil Council demolished some 10 shops and a stable and got a costly land evacuated from land grabbers here on Saturday.

A noted personality of Garjakh, Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail, had donated a piece of one kanal and three marla land for the construction of a mosque and a seminary several years ago. But the land grabbers forcibly occupied the land and built shops and a stable on it.

Qari Muhammad Farooq was shot dead and Afzal Lone and Haji Saleem were injured in an ambush by illegal land occupiers when they tried to evacuate the land from them some two years ago.

The land grabbers also got an injection from a local court against the city tehsil council which was later dismissed when the city tehsil council pursued the case. While the Lahore High Court also upheld the decision of the lower court.

Taking prompt action, the City Tehsil Council demolished the shops and the stable within four hours.

Meanwhile, City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad announced the construction of the mosque and the seminary at the evacuated land.
