HYDERABAD, July 23: Two constables of the Hala police station were arrested on Tuesday while taking bribe from two truck drivers.

The SHO and a head constable of the police station were suspended under the directives of Hyderabad district police officer (operations) A.D. Khawaja.

The DPO also recommended suspension of Hala Taluka police officer Syed Amir Abbas Shah to Hyderabad regional police officer Ghulam Mohammad Malkani.

The action was taken after police constables Ghulam Rasool and Khair Mohammad were caught red-handed by official in charge of complaint cell Syed Mubashir Ali Naqvi while taking bribe from two truck drivers on Hala bypass.

They received Rs100 each from drivers Mohakamuddin and Paliyo Khan.

Following complaints that the police personnel were receiving bribes from truck drivers, the DPO had sent Mr Naqvi for verification of facts.

The policemen were arrested and a case was registered against them and referred to the anti-corruption establishment.

Hala SHO Mahar Ali Langa and head police constable Mahram Ali were suspended.

NOTICE: The Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench on Wednesday issued notice to an additional advocate-general, Sindh, and two police officials for detaining a man who was granted a protective bail.

An application against the AAG of Sindh, SHO Shahnawaz Khaskheli and ASI Aslam Awan of the Badin police station was submitted by Dr Asghar Ali Shah through Zahoor A. Baloch, advocate.

The petitioner said his brother Akhtar Ali Shah was granted seven days bail on July 16 in crime no 143/2003. He said the next day a surety was furnished before the additional registrar of the SHC Hyderabad circuit bench and on July 19 he appeared before the sessions judge of Badin with his bail order.

He said the respondent SHO and the ASI picked him up as soon as Akhtar Ali Shah stepped out of the court premises following rejection of his bail plea by the second additional district judge.

The counsel argued that the police officials had committed contempt of court. He prayed the court to declare detention of Akhtar Ali Shah, who was not produced before the court, as illegal.
