LAHORE, July 20: President Gen Pervez Musharraf arrived here on Sunday morning after a successful week-long visit to three Maghreb states.

Speaking to newsmen at the airport, President said his agenda of visit to Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco was to enhance economic, trade and commercial ties with these countries.

He said that apart from strengthening Pakistan’s trade ties, he discussed with the leaders international issues and the challenges being faced by the Muslim world.

The talks, the president said, generally focused on need to enhance relations in economy while at the same time tried to identify areas for more cooperation. He said there was a general consensus to increase cooperation in the fields of science and technology and human resource development.

Replying to a question, he said the most important achievement of the visit was awareness among these states of free trade.

About the warm welcome he received, the president said:”It was unprecedented.”

The president was received at the airport by Governor Punjab Khalid Maqbool and Lahore Corps Commander Zarar Azeem.—APP
