Jirga of Balochistan tribal elders convened on 23rd

QUETTA, July 20: Chief minister Balochistan Jam Mohammad Yousuf has convened a Jirga of various tribal elders of Baloch, Pakhtun and Hazara tribes here on Wednesday to evolve a strategy to develop sectarian tolerance and brotherhood to maintain law and order situation.

Official sources here on Sunday confirmed that special emissary of the chief minister has left to the interior of the province to deliver the invitations to chieftains of tribes and influential figures to participate in the Jirga.

The sources stated that chief minister was interested to take the tribal elders and important personalities into confidence on the latest development of the investigations related to the tragic incidents of June 8 and July 4 that claimed about 60 lives.

Mr Yousuf would also ascertain the views besides suggestions from the tribal elders of Baloch, Pakhtun, and Hazara tribes to determine a policy that should stop the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.

The sources stated that 300 persons have been invited and hoped that a large number of the tribal elders would take part in the deliberations as people of all walks of life were stressing that government should take concrete measures with backing of the tribal and influential personalities to curb terrorism.

MEETING: A two-day inter-provincial meeting of the education departments will begin on Monday in Ziarat to discuss reforms and ways for bringing Madaris to the main stream of the education sector.

Federal Education Minister Zubaida Jalal would preside over the meeting.

CROP DESTROYED: The Anti-Narcotics Force and the Levies Force have destroyed one acre of cannabis planted in Killi Dilsura of Khanuzai sub-division and two growers were taken in custody.

According to a statement issued here on Saturday, the ANF team in collaboration with the local administration and Levies Force on tip off raided the village in Pishin district where the cannabis were grown on one acre of land. The law enforcement agencies not only destroyed the illegal crops but they also confiscated the tubewell machine used to irrigate the cannabis.

Two cultivators, Abdur Rashid and Umar Shah, were arrested. A case has been registered against both the accused.

NIFAZ-I-SHARIAT COUNCIL: The first meeting of the Balochistan Nifaz-i-Shariat Council (NSC) held here on Saturday discussed recommendations of the Islamic Ideology Council, the powers of the NSC and Dastoorul Amal Diwan Kalat.

Balochistan Nifaz-i-Shariat Council Chairman Maulana Abdul Bari presided over the deliberations.

Participants of the meeting unanimously supported the implementation of Islamic laws in the province and decided that after reviewing recommendations of the ideology council and studying the Dastoorul Amal Diwan Kalat, a Shariat bill would be presented before the Balochistan assembly at an appropriate time.

The Dastoorul Amal Diwan Kalat is a set of rules reflecting the Islamic injunctions, besides covering the culture and traditions of the province.
