LAHORE, July 13: An important general council meeting of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) will make constitutional amendments on Monday to pave ways for adopting new national sports policy.
The PVF president Chaudhary Mohammad Yaqoob, confirmed to Dawn on Sunday that PVF was going to adopt the sports policy which could not be implemented since it was announced in 2001.
Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), and various national sports federations have shown their reservations over the implementation of the policy ,mainly due to one of its clause disallowing an official to retain a post in any sport body for more than two terms.
Under that clause, 70 percent current officials of the sports bodies have to relinquish their offices. Yaqoob, who is also one of the victim of this clause, admitted that all plus and minus points would be there when the federation would adopt the sports policy.
“Yes, my post is also at stake, but I believe the game can be ruined if the clash between the government and the federations continues further”, Yaqoob said.
Asked whether the PSB’s decision under which the annual grants of 15 national sports federations had been suspended for not adopting the policy, forced him to adopt the policy, Yaqoob said that was not the only reason, there were other factors, too.
The PVF’s decision will damage the efforts of the POA which had also summoned its general council meeting on July 23 to raise a strong voice against PSB’s decision of stopping the grants.
Yaqoob, however, clarified that PVF had not signed the requisition for the POA July 23 meeting.
The PVF president said the general council would also finalise its annual international and domestic activities programme in the meeting.
It may be mentioned here that POA had also filed a writ petition in a honourable court against the sports policy.
