HYDERABAD, July 8: The power breakdown badly affected the water supply and drainage system in parts of the city and Latifabad on Tuesday.
Several transformers burnt down following high voltage and power fluctuations.
In Gari Khata sub-division, the power supply remained suspended since morning and could not be restored till the filing of this report at 8pm.
The SDO of Gari Khata said that the burnt transformer was being replaced, and added that the replacement of transformers consumed a lot of time.
The residents of Barkat Bhai town blocked a portion of the Auto Bhan Road late Monday night after the power supply to their area was suspended as the transformer in their area, covered by the Hali Road sub-division, burst.
The Nazim, Latifabad Taluka, Abdul Jabbar Khan, persuaded them to lift the blockade after arranging a separate transformer.
There has been no water supply to various areas, including Noorani Basti, Gul Shah Road, Khair Shah ka Pir, Abbasia Colony, American Quarters, etc.
These areas are supplied water from the Hala Naka Water Works of Wasa where electricity was restored on Tuesday morning.
Rainwater remained standing at Hyder Chowk, Pathan Colony, Pakistan Chowk, Islamabad Mohallah, Qasimabad (phase-I and II), Sheedi Goth, Sehrish Nagar, and Anwar Villas.
People have commissioned generators on their own to drain out water.
District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan, DCO Mukhtiyar Aziz, and Managing Director Wasa M. Tahir visited various parts of Latifabad.
The Nazim, Latifabad, said that water had almost been drained out in the areas of Unit No2, 11, and 12.
MPA Zahid Bhurgari said that no efforts were made by the Wasa and HDA and district government officials to drain out water from his constituency (PS-47) in Qasimabad, which covered three union councils of the city Taluka, four union councils of Qasimabad and one of Latifabad Taluka.
He said that during his visit the people criticized district government officials for their failure in coming to their rescue.
A man, Ranjho Khan, 55, was electrocuted at Dargah Sakhi Abdul Wahab Shah on Monday night.
