Published July 7, 2003

SUKKUR, July 6: A 25-feet breach occurred in Shahi Wah near Manjhipur 18km off Thul, Jacobabad district, as a result a vast area of farmland and a graveyard were inundated and standing rice crop was destroyed.

Till the filing of this report on Sunday evening, the canal breach could not have been plugged.

The villagers had taken up the task of plugging the breach as the irrigation personnel had been reluctant to go to the canal breach site which is located on the crime-infested border belt.

However, the irrigation employees reached the canal breach site on Sunday afternoon to help the villagers to plug the breach. It is said that the police and rangers deployed in the area were also contributing towards the effort to plug the breach.

DIST GOVT: The district government was attaching its main focus on the development of local market— SITE, Khajoor Mandi, Small Industrial Estate and Sabzi Mandi — in order to create more job opportunities for jobless youths.

Apart from this, it is constituting a committee to assist and facilitate unemployed people to avail the facility of micro- credit through the Khushhali Bank and other loaning agencies.
