Teenager flays Bangladesh

BRISBANE, July 3: Teenager Matthew Innes made an unbeaten century to help Australia Cricket Academy to 258 for three declared on Thursday before Bangladesh closed the first day’s play at 53 for one in reply.

The Academy lost the wickets of Scott Meuleman for one and captain Aaron Nye for 10 in the first 11 overs of the three-day tour match but took control as Innes and Rhett Lockyear piled on 180 runs for the third wicket.

Victorian left-hander Innes, who turns 19 on Friday, was 128 not out from 200 balls including 17 fours and two sixes in just under five hours of batting at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field.

Lockyear, 20, from New South Wales, was stumped off the bowling of left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique 10 runs short of his century with the team’s total on 200 after hitting 10 fours and three sixes in his 195-minute stay.

Callum Ferguson was not out 18 after adding 58 for the fourth wicket with Innes in 46 minutes.

Bangladesh opener Javed Omar was out for eight in the 10th over with the score on 27 before Hannan Sarkar (32 not out) and Habibul Bashar (13 not out) put on an unbeaten 26 for the second wicket.
