MINGORA, July 1: Girl students of Government Postgraduate Jehanzeb College, Saidu Sharif, on Tuesday alleged that the college administration was forcing them to vacate the hostel allegedly on the instigation of some officials.

About 35 girls held a press conference and said the late district Nazim had allotted a house to provide boarding facilities to them but the  college administration and government officials were forcing them to vacate it.

Women councillors and boys of the college were also present.

They alleged that Human Resource Development Officer Arshad Khan and a judge of the anti-terrorism court, Ayaz Khan, were using the police to evict the students from the hostel.

They appealed to the governor, the chief minister and the district coordination officer to help stop the interference of government officials in the college affairs.

Councillors Amna Khan, Aaisha Suhrab, Shahnaz Ahmad, Tahira Khan, Aqal Mina Nawab, Parveen Akhtar, Rukhsana Zafar and dozens of students warned that they would take to the streets if interference in the college affairs was not stopped.

The judge, when contacted, said termed the allegations baseless and said the house had been allotted to him on April 15. He said former  executive district officer, finance, Shoaib Khan, was residing in the house and he had promised to hand it over to him on June 30, but he did not do so. The judge said he was going to sue the former EDO.

He said Arshad Khan had nothing to do with the house.

Arshad Khan claimed that the house was his designated residence and neither the judge was entitled to get it nor the Nazim had the authority to allot it to the students. He claimed that the house had been allotted to the students for six months.

The president of the Sarhad College Teachers Association, Jehanzeb  College unit, Prof Sher Alam Khan, criticized the official for his attempt to get the hostel vacated.

He that the students had been facing hardship due to non-availability of a hostel and the house had been allotted to them by the authorities concerned.
